Heading into Covid, there were many business owners who were quite proud of the businesses they had created and likely they had big plans for the next steps they would take.

Life altering events like Covid seldom wait for us to get ready to handle what it throws our way. I bet there were moments when you were quite proud of what you had created and marveled at how your labour had parlayed into a pretty decent life.

Along comes Covid - didn’t see that coming - you’re more than a little peeved. It's quite possible that you made a big investment in your business the previous year after you had weighed all the factors and mitigated against risk. Covid has definitely put you in a bad mood.

For many folks, it feels like you're back to square one. As you go through those mixed emotions of anger, betrayal and disappointment not to mention shame as you start to downsize our lifestyle - things are not going the way you had planned.

When you get past the early stage grief, you start to ponder the idea of the rebuild and you may even recognize the opportunity being presented. You waffle between convincing yourself that you're wiser now and it's not exactly like starting over because of the IP you've gleaned along the way and considering throwing in the towel because frankly, you used all of your best energy your first time around.

Sound familiar? You're not alone.

Individuals have faced life altering events for time immemorial and it’s been a difficult slog through the pain of loss, the grief, the acceptance and reinvention. I know how lonely that can feel. This time, you’re not alone – there are many others in the same boat but not everyone has the mental toughness to organize information, lock and load on the target and take the necessary steps to rebuild.

Finding the money is not the biggest challenge - a bigger challenge will be finding the internal fortitude to get up every day and do what needs to be done. It means building out a new network of people who can support you on this new leg. This is where the advice comes in handy about treating people right on the way up - it's on the way down that you'll likely need them.

Resilience is complicated and is not for the feint of heart. If you're Jonesin’ to get back to that place where you had self respect, status and a good life, you'll do the work.

You’re made of amazing stuff but will you do what it takes? If you want someone on your side who understand resilience, give me a holler
