#274 The difference between scarcity and abundance mindset.

Sep 17, 2023

There is a very clear distinction between scarcity and abundance mindset.

Let's start with scarcity - we have all known people like this. They fixate on what's not possible. They are always talking about the limitations. Because they see resources as limited, they are often less generous and will often hoard resources or not share information.

Contrast this with the person with abundance mindset. They are optimists and see possibilities and potential everywhere. When faced with an upset in life, they tend to seek out ways to move past it. They believe in the potential for growth. They're often generous, grateful and they strive to remain positive.

We all cycle in and out of one or the other on occasion - who hasn't been hit with a curve ball in life and immediately wondered "why am I so unlucky" and if it's a curve ball that impacts your security (food and shelter)  a temporary feeling of negativity is to be expected. Truth be told, it's quite normal to have a reaction to upsets in life.

Abundance mindset people bounce back. They seek the help they need and then they take the steps they can take to move forward. They let go of what they cannot control - they have a default setpoint that looks for possibilities.

Faced with the same challenge, a person with scarcity mindset will use the same incident to prove that he was born with the "unlucky" gene. He is quick to give up and will often surrender to negativity. They are often stopped dead in their tracks when faced with hardship - this can lead to prolonged helplessness and victim feelings.
