If you're hosting a strategy session for a small group, here are 3 tips to make it fun and informative.

1. Event details

Find a space where you will have no distractions. Set your ground rules before you begin. No phones ringing is a good place to start. Have all attendees bring lots of supplies. I recommend groups of 4 and include people who are from a different industry than your own. Set aside 3 hour segments with a short break in the middle and then a second 3 hour segment. I don't have these in the same day because your ideas need time to percolate - especially for those of us who are processors. Bring an assortment of snacks. Have lots of fun.

2. Revenue

Set your revenue target by increasing what you made this year by 10% until it makes you uncomfortable. Don't be afraid of the number. If it doesn't intimidate you a little, it isn't big enough. List your revenue streams and break that number down. How much of your total revenue will come from X revenue stream? How much from Y revenue stream etc?

3. The Strategy

Look at this past year and take an inventory of what went well for you in business. Celebrate this and do more of it. Next, what do you want to  leave behind? Where are the affiliates that can help you sell? Let's face it, someone else's fans can become your clients. Can you market one to many? How can you help one another achieve your goals (this is where choosing the right people to come into your group really helps you out). Look at the cost. Do you need to raise prices? Is there another product that needs to be developed? The list goes on - when you are in strategy sessions, you need to have a big picture look at your biz and all the moving parts.
